The best of business trips...

... is coming back and walking into my daughter's room to watch her sleep.

I came back from a business trip yesterday more exhausted than I could remember. I was literally falling off my feet, due in part to my dumb choice of wearing high heels to travel. (Note to self -- that is idiotic!)

I couldn't even muster up a conversation with my husband until I went upstairs and watched my daughter sleep for a few minutes. After that, I was still exhausted, but I was fine.

Of course, if she decided to sleep in a little later this morning it would have been a really nice treat -- but I like to think that she woke up extra early because she missed me. (Oh, and because I promised to bring her a little something and she wanted to see the present:)

  • I started travelling when my boys were about 8 & 14. it was a great opportunity for them to start taking some responsibility, especially the 13 yr old. I worked with him on menus before leaving so he could make dinners. After the first menu we worked out, he stopped & said, "Geez, this is like math trying to figure out when to take the meat out of the freezer & when to put the potatoes on!" I felt good about that, but then I'd call in the evening because I missed them & they'd cut me off because they were watching Three Stooges movies which they & their dad liked & I didn't. But on the other hand they'd be ready with big hugs when I got home, the best part by far!

  • Oh yes. Melt.
Second best thing (for me), Is getting the good night phone call from my 10 yo cell. That little voice is so adorable. It stops me in my tracks and makes me smile. Melt.

  • That's a cute story. I had a moment like that when I walked into my son's (8) room to wake him up, and he had the sheet pulled up around him snugly and his face was angled downwards and he looked SO cute that I just had to stand there for an extra min or two watching him sleep... zing, he got me, right in the ol' ticker. - Paula.
