My work day.

5:15 a.m.- Hear the alarm go off, debate on calling in sick, decide sick days might actually be needed at some point and drag myself out of bed.

5:45 a.m.- Bring my daughter downstairs, take off her overnight and put a regular diaper on until she wakes up for the day. Eat breakfast and get my hot tea ready.

6:15 a.m.- Catch a ride to work with my dad, get dropped off at the front door and greet the receptionist (she's retiring this year so she's pretty chatty).

6:30 a.m.- Get in my cube, get signed into my computer and check my emails, read other company news available.

7:00 a.m.- Wait for some information from some engineer in the company so I can get some work done.

9:00 a.m.- Still waiting, hmm let's stream last night's episode of ------ (whatever was on last night) while I'm waiting.

10:00 a.m.- Wow, finished last night's episode. Still waiting on the engineer to email or call me with the information I need to get some work done.

11:45 a.m.- LUNCH TIME!! My mom picks me up with my daughter and we go have lunch.

12:30 p.m.- Back to work. Greet the receptionist again. Talk about the price of milk when she was a kid.

12:45 p.m.- Return to desk. Check my empty email and non existing phone messages from the engineer that hasn't called or emailed me back yet.

2:00 p.m.- Got a side task from someone else. Takes approximately 15-20 minutes to complete and return.

3:00 p.m.- So frustrated at this point, start thinking about banging my head against my cube walls. Decide to read the online newspaper from my hometown. Play some Freecell.

3:30 p.m.- FINALLY get the information I need. Oh, by the way, the changes I'm supposed to make are due today. I get off at 4 p.m. I've been waiting ALL DAY and have to rush myself to get something done and back out by 4. Low and behold, I need more information. Email another engineer for more information.

4:00 p.m.- No reply from the other engineer yet. Time to go home! I'll check my email in the morning.

Repeat 4-5 times a week.

  • Oh, boy...do I ever feel you on the whole "waiting on someone else to complete my task" thing. Very well written, gave me a smile.
