This is the Project That Never Ends. It Just Goes On and On, My Friend...

Remember that song from Sherry and Lambchop. I know that I'm dating myself, but I really loved that show.
It came to mind when I was on what seemed to be a neverending contract project several months ago. This morning it came to me again. Why? Because the workbook I am creating was scheduled to be completed about three weeks ago. Partly because I've gotten distracted with other projects. Mostly because I keep adding content to the workbook. I want this book to have a life-changing impact upon jobseekers and their families so I've been driving myself absolutely crazy to make it perfect. I know that perfectionism can be a form of procrastination, even of self-sabotage. Neither of which is completely unfamiliar to me. So, today I am determined to stay focused and finish 3 - 6 of the forms needed to complete the workbook.
I'll keep you posted....
8AM: I am at the computer, posting this note when I realize it is 8AM and time to begin my workday. I opt to stay in my PJs and jump right in. I jumped to some of my biggest distractions right away. I find that getting them out the way is helpful to my productivity. So, I posted on a couple of blogs, read the tons of email that flooded my inbox and grabbed some breakfast - i.e. leftover Q and sweet potato casserole. Then, I made myself a cup of tea and headed back upstairs to my office.
9AM to 11:30AM: Got two important sample documents completed for the workbook. Made an important phone call to enroll son in new school.11:30AM to 12:30PM 2:30PM: Took break to eat lunch and spend some time with hubby who works evenings.
3PM - 3:30PM: Straightened up the kitchen and threw in a load of laundry.
3:30PM - 7PM: Completed three more sections of workbook: sample marketing documents for savvy jobseekers. Super excited about getting these three done.
7PM - ???: Moving to laptop so that my son can use the desktop. I am determined to get another major piece or two of the workbook done this evening. Then I will be about 85% done with the project. Yipee!
Later my son and I will hang out a bit, then watch the Western Conference Finals. Likely I'll be in bed, still tapping away on the keys of the laptop. But, I am determined to go to bed at a decent time.
I will sleep well, feeling accomplished, and feeling that, at least for one day, I've done a fairly good job of balancing work and family.
