Today I counted my blessings
Last night at around 6pm, I had quite the scare with my 9 month old son. He managed to swollow a piece of celophane wrap that had come off of my daughter's new CD.
To make a long story short, I took him to the ER at our local hospital to see if they could see it and remove it. He was able to breathe, but would gasp, sputter and vomit every couple minutes. Well, the doctor and two nurses couldn't see anything. I thought they would send me home and have me monitor him through the night, but instead they told me something completely different! I was told he needed to be seen at another hospital and that they would be air lifting us out. I was so scared! As my son and I prepared to get on the helicopter, he was so exhauseted from all the chaos that he fell asleep on my chest and slept through the whole chopper ride! I had time as we flew to reflect upon the events that were unfolding. As the sun poked through the clouds as it was setting, I was so thankful to live in a place where he could have the opportunity to have such good care.
As the chopper landed, we were greeted by 2 more paramedics and rushed to the ER there. Within minutes my son was taken to the OR, placed under a general and the doctor was able to take a good look around. Thankfully his lungs and airways were clear and he would be fine! They kept him and I over night to monitor him and let us go home this morning.
What a crazy night! It just goes to show that no matter how careful a mother can be, little ones can always find something to get their hands on! I know he was in good hands and was well taken care of and I can really say that I spent my day today cuddling him and counting my blessings! He is such a sweet baby boy and all I could think about was how blessed we are to have him safe and sound in our arms.
