Nursing Necklaces/Nursing Beads

mother who will be breastfeeding, and as a mother who is all about
beginning education as soon as possible, I absolutely LOVE the idea of nursing necklaces.
Basically these are necklaces that you wear while nursing. They come in
different colors, and you can have them personalized as well. These
necklaces provide many benefits for nursing children including vision
development and tactile explorations.
Newborns
to babies up to 3 months old are generally far sighted so they can't
focus everything accurately, so studies show that they tend to gaze
more at black and white patterns. Therefore the necklaces with black,
white, and red are generally more popular with newborns. The necklaces
help babies with their focusing.
Now
any baby can follow an object with their eyes, but it's harder for
newborns; they will follow it with a "jerky" eye motion. Here is a
photo of the necklace I plan on using during Talan's first months of
nursing (from Tickled Pink Designs ) ....
Once a baby hits 3 months of age, they
are able to follow an object more smoothly, as long as it's not too
close to their face. The more brightly colored necklaces appeal to
babies now, and it's recommended that you dangle the necklace left and
right in front of baby. This is called eye coordination and tracking.
And here is the more brightly colored necklace I plan on using when
Talan hits this stage (again from Tickled Pink Designs ) ...
From 3 to 5 months of age, the
necklaces help with depth perception. Babies aren't born with this.
Twisting and turning the necklace in between baby's fingers helps them
to develop an understanding of different textures.
You can learn more about the visual development these necklaces provide HERE.
As
far as tactile exploration, it is encouraged by babies rubbing their
fingers across different surfaces, holding or grasping an object, etc.
You can learn more about it HERE.
I really just wanted to
share about these necklaces. You'd be amazed at the number of
breastfeeding mothers who don't know about them. I didn't find out
about them until around my second month of pregnancy.
is an article on how to make your own necklace. It doesn't give much
information, but I'm sure if you do a Google or Yahoo search you can
find better articles. Call me lazy, but I'd rather just purchase one
