Just when you think you can breathe...

After almost 3 months short-staffed, we finally got 2 vacancies filled just over a month ago. One of those new hires came in today to quit, after taking 3 days' unpaid leave last week, due to personal issues that she needs to deal with. Less than an hour later, another employee (6 years' standing), told me she would be resigning, and just gave me her official two-weeks-notice letter. Yikes. It must be Monday.

  • Rosanne - I actually have a couple of days off planned at the end of October. My husband and I are going to Catalina Island to celebrate out first wedding anniversary - and it will be a very welcome break! Till then, I definitely have to be in the office. There's nothing like a crisis to make you feel needed :-(.

  • Well, hopefully there is light at the end of the tunnel since it's Thursday. Silly question maybe- do you have any vacation time coming? Get away soon!!
Or realistically, hang in there; something's gotta give. There are good employees out there, although it seems they are becoming less and less available!

  • MaryP - It depends. Chances are good that we'll bring in a temp for at least one of the two positions. It usually takes at least a few weeks to hire someone, between advertising, interviewing, offering, and getting clearances. Hiring someone really GOOD can take a lot longer. We've actually made two good hires from people who started with us as temps, so if we go that route again it's fine with me. I will certainly keep you all posted!

And yes, the "note" feature is new! They launched it over the weekend.

  • How exasperating! How long does it take to hire on new staff?

(Is this "note" feature new, or have I just never noticed??)

  • Nataly - it seems like it's been "extra work" all this year. The sad part? I'm annoyed by the fact it will probably cut into how much time I can spend here and on my blog.

Kate - A job ABDICATION is more like it. Lucky for my boss that I like him and don't want to leave him in the lurch :-).

  • Wow, it is Monday.... those things always happen in groups, somehow. Hope it doesn't mean too much extra work for you!
