The downside of multitasking

This really isn't worthy of a note, but I am going to write it down because a week from now I want to read it and laugh at myself.

Today I burned rice I was making for my daughter - twice!

Both times I put it on to cook and then had a phone call I had to make. Both times I, of course, forgot about the rice until I started to smell something.

The first time I was ready to cry. The second time I laughed at how pathetic I was.

I know it's not safe, so that's one thing to remember, silly Nataly. But I just can't believe that I could not learn my lesson after the first time. Wow.

The downside of working mom multitasking - there you have it.

  • Next thing you know some media outlet is going to do a story about how working moms who work from home endanger their children by causing food fires:)

  • I burned the stuffing last night because I was on the phone. My husband was like...who burns stuffing, basically your just boiling water!!! Yeah, felt like the world's biggest loser! :)

  • LOL..when my older son was little, I left stew on the stove (spaced!) and went to a petting zoo. A neighbor saw the smoke, checked the house, called the fire department...I came home and my pot of stew was in the driveway-which I thought a bit odd, but.... Had NO idea the firemen had been in there clearing smoke for an hour or so, until the fire chief called later that day!

  • MaryP and jlauren - so wow, I am not the only nuts one! This makes me feel much better - and I need to go check our smoke detector...

  • Today, I set an empty cast iron frying pan on fire. I'd put a pot of water on to boil, and, yup, turned the heat to max on the wrong burner. I didn't notice the smoke, I didn't notice the smell. What I did notice was that funny tiny beeping noise, and, going into the kitchen -- OHMYGOD!! I am now reseasoning the poor frying pan. And we're getting new batteries for the smoke detector...

  • Awesome. I've actually destroyed a pan boiling water before. Gotta love those days.

  • Great idea. Except part of the issue I wrote about above is that I was trying to be, you know, supermom - cook, work, etc. It's ridiculous - but I still hang on to the idea that I can do it all some days. :)

  • you know, uncle ben's makes this new fangled rice you can microwave for 90 seconds. worst case it's TOO cool :) (and for the whole grain brown 'flavor' is nothing extra, not even salt!)
