Needs of a New Mom back at work - Need understanding work environment with flexibility.

This is more of a "venting" session, but I know some of you have been in the same situation I currently am in.  I am a new Mom, with a job that is "not so flexible" for the needs of my family.

I have had to leave work because my baby (currently 6months old) had had and Upper Respiratory Virus at 3 months, then currently, she contracted Rotovirus from daycare, in which I have had to miss more work.  I have only been on this job as "Agent Services Contact Center Rep" for an insurance company for about 4 months, and have missed 38 hours of paid time off so far.

My Boss is getting sick of me missing work, and I feel guilty, even though I know I am doing the right thing taking care of my child.  I really need to find a job, or working environment, where people understand how important me being available for my child is.  I need to have benefits for me and my child, but I need an flexible working environment that pays close to what I am paying now ?

Can anyone relate ?  Any ideas?

  • Hi, Miracle Mom,
There's nothing worse than when your child is sick and you have to be at work. My only suggestion would be to look around for a job with better flexibility or maybe one that has hours that are different from your husband's. (And that's a tough situation too; you never get to see each other.)

You need a more empathetic boss. At about six months, my son started getting viruses every few weeks and it was really tough. He'd have fevers that lasted a few days, during which time he was completely miserable and needed to be held constantly. Luckily, my work schedule was flexible, but there were those days when I had to work after being up all night with him. It's so tough.

You have my sympathy, believe me. And I wish the best for you and your family.

  • Ever thought of working from home where you can put your family first? I've up to tripled what I used to earn as a RN from home now, so when the boys need me, I'm here. Tim (hubby) has also replaced his income, so we get to be home together...

This doesn't work well for someone that needs a BOSS standing over them telling them what to do, but we love it....

Feel free to message me with any questions... and KEEP putting your kids first! You're the ONLY mom they have!!
