So today was quite the ride.  It's nuts to me how people without kids think that they can tell you how to raise kids.  Then when you get upset, they get upset that your upset. Huh?  Makes no sense to me.

As you can probably tell, today had issues....so many issues.

  • so many times, i experience this, but what i hate the most is the people with kids telling you how to raise your kids. once you've had kids i think it's wise to remember how unique parenting is to the parents and kid(s) involved. i know any advice i could give is always framed as what worked for me, not what will work for you.

so, what works for me when i'm in the situation that you found yourself in, is (once, i've calmed down, of course) is to remember not to engage this person in any parenting conversations again. i try to remember why i like this person in the first place and talk to them about those things. if this person is peripheral and i could live without their pearls of wisdom, then i try to avoid this person, until i feel secure enough to tell them to buzz off.

not that i'm trying to give you advice, but i hate the thought of you having unnecessary aggravation about someone behaving so selfishly.

  • I know how you feel. I have childless friends that think them babysitting when they were younger means they know all about raising children. I did the babysitting thing too. I'm the oldest of about 15 grandkids so I was always keeping someone occupied while their parents went shopping or what not. Just being around kids once in a while doesn't mean you'd be an expert in parenting. I guess some people just think they know everything. Man are they in for a reality check!
