I am still trying to learn this whole marketing thing. Some do it yourself marketing that is.

I am supposedly having a PR firm send out another press release but they haven't done it yet. I don't know what they are waiting for. So I am a little frustrated.

  • This is a topic close to my heart since I'm also in the process of marketing a children's picture book. (Hold on to Your Horses by Sandra Tayler) So far I haven't managed to arrange national distribution yet. It is only available through Amazon.com or direct from our store.

Have you looked into the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (scbwi.org)? That site is loaded with information on publishing. Even with big publishers most of the burden of marketing the book is the responsibility of the author. I have several friends with multiple books out, but they still do their own calling to set up book store signings. Try getting involved with your local library and schools. See if you can volunteer to do story times for kids in the target age for your book. Google and see if you can find a local bookfair that you can participate in. Find book review blogs and contact them see if they're willing to review your book for you. There is some prejudice in the publishing industry regarding PublishAmerica. You may have to work harder to overcome that prejudice. Good Luck!
