Why I Choose the Mommy Track
Posted 1st August 2008 by SoftwareMom, tagged mommy track opt-out
The "opt-out revolution" was getting a lot of press, and I thought to myself, "that doesn't sound so bad." Staying home for awhile didn't mean that I had to morph into a career homemaker. (I respect women who choose that career, but it still doesn't appeal to me personally.) Opt-out for a few years, find a way to opt-in later.
The Mommy Track is my opt-in path. I keep my resume fresh, my network current, my future options open. I have time to do the fun parts of being a mommy, and money to outsource some bits I find tedious. Someday I will find a way to move into work I am more passionate about, or else I will retire having enjoyed the journey along the way.
