inhome care vs. daycare center

I am a mother of 1 very smart little 2 year old. My daughter is potty trained, knows how to count to 20 and sings her ABC's all the time, she is learning to spell her name and we are working on simple math.

Now our delimma, we have to switch sitters, but are not sure of where to take her. We love her current sitter but she is changing hours so we can no longer stay there. I don't trust a lot of people in providing the best care for my daughter, because of past bad experiences with her first sitter who wasn't feeding her or changing her diaper.

Now what do we do? Should we find a local daycare center, where there are 20+ kids in a class? or find a stay at home mom, and hope that they are providing actual activities and curriculum so she can continue learning, and hope that they are not taking care of their children more than they are taking care of mine.

What are some questions I need to ask so I can find the right provider? and what are some signs I can look for at the providers house or at the daycare center, to know whether they would provide the best care.

  • I would like to suggest that you look into "schools" in lieu of daycare centers. Our daughter has been in a Christian school (we are RC but religion is not part of the daily curriculum until much later) since she was 4 months old. The school has a baby room, a toddler room, a 2-3 yr old room, and so on so that the child is comfortable but also challenged and learning in each stage. My girl is 22 months and she is also advanced and already accustomed to the structure of a school class without the rigidity. There's no right way or wrong way but I felt more comfortable with a school rather than a less structured day care and my daughter LOVES her caregivers and classmates.

  • One of our members is a home daycare provider and she wrote this helpful article the other day -- I thought you might find it useful:

  • Do you PERSONALLY know of anyone else that does inhome care? How about asking if your sitter that you love knows of anyone "JUST LIKE HER".
