Violated

They GHOST WROTE me!!! Without telling me, iVillage completely rewrote my bio, AS THOUGH I HAD WRITTEN IT. And, to make it worse, they didn't tell me. Now, if they'd asked me to redo it, or if they'd done it making it clear that it was THEIR blurb of me, I wouldn't care (well, not quite so much. I'm not too happy with my employer these days.) But they didn't. They put words into my mouth and claimed them as mine. It's dishonest and it's insulting. And only a vague sense of self preservation (I need them to pay me for at least 2 more months so that I can afford airfare to BlogHer in July) is keeping me from blogging it on their site.

  • wow.. just wow... How could they is all that I can think of right now. I hope you can find some kind of recourse to put them in their place. Contractual or not, the fact they GHOST wrote a very inaccurate picture of you should have some kind of legal repercussions on your part, isn't there?

  • I'm contractually obligated through April. Unless they fire me. I'm thinking of daring them to--heck, I'm thinking of blogging it on their damn site! :) But then there's the BlogHer money.

Nataly's right though, it certainly doesn't inspire me to do my best work for them. That's reserved for Parenting Without A License now, with first rights to Nataly, who get it :)

  • I'm sorry they did that to you. It sounds like they may have an agenda of their own. If that's the case, I'd probably think about getting out as soon as I could. And if you do blog it somewhere, sometime...well, revenge is a dish best served cold. :-)

  • The worst part is, they changed ME. The parts they added go against everything I believe, the way I live my life, and the entire philosphy/tenor of the blog. ARRRRRGH.

  • Wow that would totally discourage me from writing for them. Hopefully you can get enough money and then ditch them. I can't believe the total lack of personal respect! I guess to some companies you are just part of their business and they feel they have the authority to do whatever they wish, disregarding personal feelings.

  • You know, as someone who runs a company which employs bloggers stuff like this really just amazes me. How in the world do they think this will make you work hard to deliver the best possible content for them?

  • wow! that's crazy! do you have any management or support there that you can talk to about what is going on? i can't imagine a good excuse but it might help to get the word out that you would like to be in the loop with changes!!
