... so that worry about Rebekah and her "open relationship"?

A day or two after our non-conversation, Rebekah approached me. "I changed my status on my facebook to 'in a relationship with...'."

I asked how the boyfriend felt about that. "Oh, he was fine with it. It's just that for a while, he hadn't told his mother we were going out, and last week he finally told her, when I was going to go to the movie with them. So, now that his mother knows, the relationship is out in the open. That's what he thought 'open relationship' meant."

All together now, "Aaawww..."

But he's coming over for dinner on Saturday. It's time I met this young man.

  • I met him -- but he only visited for half an hour. Apparently his parents expected him home for dinner. I don't know who dropped the ball here, or whether the boy just chickened out (!), but next time I think I'll call his parents to let them know this is a dinner invitation. I didn't get any horribly negative impressions in that short visit, but not enough time to form much of an impression at all. Except he's very tall! (6'5")

  • Was it this past weekend that you met The Boyfriend? (Or is it this coming Saturday?) If it was, how did that turn out?

  • Different world entirely, with twenty-something children isn't it? I'm feeling a little remiss that I have yet to meet the boy Rebekah's been "dating" for three weeks; Sarah was dating her fellow for months before I met him, and I'd only met him twice when they moved in together this summer. And that's okay! I hope you like this young woman -- if she's hung around this long, who knows how long she might be in the picture?

  • It's a little different since they're not teens anymore, but I'm supposed to be meeting my son's girlfriend at Christmas. They've been seeing each other for about a year, but it was long-distance till he graduated from university this spring, and now they live around the corner from each other (he moved to her city). I'm wondering how I'll greet the young woman who has managed to put up with Chris for this long. ;-)

  • Uh-huh. I do, indeed. In fact, I'd drifted there ahead of you! LOL

  • They ARE funny, aren't they? That sounds like a bit of a relief. I hope once you meet him, it's STILL a relief, if you get my drift. :-)
