Party prep has left me pooped

My daughter turns 2 tomorrow! Don't have time to ENJOY her birthday. Not now! I'm simultaneously removing pet hair from the furniture and throwing baking ingredients around. Even small parties are so much work! I'm looking forward to seeing all her little friends turn up but, at the same time, I can't seem to ever throw a party without stressing out over the planning. I am going to do my best to remember it doesn't have to be perfect. In fact, I have taken to using that as a sort of mantra at times like this. You don't have to be perfect. The house doesn't have to be perfect. Just enjoy. But... But... There's still so much to do!!!!

  • Thanks guys for your comments!! I really appreciate it. I think I will have to cut back next year. I like the thought of a big party for all her friends, and I love to have everyone over, but maybe a more limited menu next year/less home-made stuff. Not sure... But, yes, she had a wonderful birthday and enjoyed playing with all her friends and her new Play-Doh kit!

  • My girls' birthdays are 4 days apart. They is an 8 year age difference so having a "joint" party is out of the question so I end up having parties two weekends in a row. It works out nice because I can spread out the set up and take down of all the chairs, tables, etc. over the two weekends which makes it not so stressful.

This year however, I had to spread the parties further apart because one of my girl's birthday's is Oct. 30. With Halloween falling on a Friday, I can't squeeze in a birthday party that weekend.

After doing this for almost 13 years, I cut back on the amount of food and decorations I put out, and I don't stress on how clean my house is before the party, because it's going to get dirty during the party. I just wait to thoroughly clean AFTER the party. I still stress about getting everything done, before the party, but the most important thing is that your child has a great party and knows that you love them.

  • I know exactly what you mean about even small parties being a lot of work. There's always something to stress over, and there's always something more to do. Hope she has a wonderful birthday today!
