The fragility of children

My son's classmate had an emergency appendectomy and went into septic shock. He had to be flown to Portland. He's improving, but it has been very difficult for the family (both financially and emotionally). It's every mother's nightmare and they are in my thoughts. This little boy is in the class I volunteer teach on Tuesdays and Thursdays. He could be my son.

I think it's important to remember that although our children are strong, they are not invincible and that we need to take hold of what we have right now and appreciate it.  I have to remember that all the little minutae that I deal with every day at work is not what it's all about.

  • Cheers, Rusty, for noting this for us. And for realizing it yourself. Make a big, permanent note of this for those times in the future you do forget...and give your kids another hug!

  • Rusty, thank you for sharing this - I think it's a really important reminder to cherish the everyday moments we have with our kids and to not sweat the small stuff at work!
