The dreaded grocery store

I know many people would kill for a husband that asks to do the grocery shopping. A few years ago, that would have been me. However, DH has now been grocery shopping for almost 3 years and I took it back over this week. I have learned some good habits from him that I will keep, but he is out of this job. I know, I know, most of you think it is a chore, and it is. And when DH went to the store, he was never tempted to buy crap in the checkout or succumb to impulse purchases in the cracker aisle…I just got tired of things being forgotten, both on the list and him not even looking at a recipe to see what to get. So I was at the store the night before Thanksgiving getting BUTTER, which is a no-brainer and there is no reason to run out of it – ever. But in DH’s world, if I did not put it specifically on the list, then how should he know? DUH! He cooks as much as I do, so he should! I just cannot take it anymore. I know we keep to a pretty tight food budget each month, so I just asked him what it was and it is my goal to come in under it. I know I can do it, even with a few “extras” because he does not shop around, and I plan to get as much as I can from Aldi and fill in the rest with grocery store stuff. We already get almost all store brands, so even with the extra baking this month, I am not concerned about the budget number. I will let you know at the end of the month how I do with it!

  • :) My dh goes grocery shopping with my list every week and if I don't put something on the list, including something very basic, forget it, we won't have it:)
