Sharing information about your kids online
Posted 3rd December 2008 by Stacey S
So I just started a facebook account (ok so I am really behind the times). It is a wonderful tool for helping to keep up with friends, but it has really made me think about internet safety (along with other social boards). Many of my friends post pictures of their children, some even in their profile pics. I am paranoid, the only picture I have posted of my daughter is of the pigtails on the back of her head.
Facebook is especially troubling. You can find out first and last names and cities. There is lots of information given out. I would love to post pictures, but I do worry. Plus my husband would not be happy. He is even more concerned about internet safety than I am.
Am I paranoid? Maybe. But where is the line? How do I teach my daughter about giving out too much information someday when I give out so much myself? All of the connectedness we have now is great, but it does make things more complicated. I choose to err on the side of caution since she is my one and only duaghter.
