frown for the camera

I wouldn't exactly say it was a picture perfect moment.

But you know what they say: that which does not kill us, makes us stronger. So why wouldn't I want the bad - along with the good - to be permanently etched in my personal history?

My current boss is not only a fabulous female role model. She is a friend and mommy cohort. So when I asked to meet with her one Monday morning, I expected professional support. I admitted to her that I had been offered a position with a local competitor. But I wanted to stay with my current company. I received anything but support. Enraged, she lashed out at me for half an hour.

I wish at that moment I had had a camera. I want to remember that moment forever.

That meeting led me to accept the job offer. My heart is heavy. My leaving is bittersweet. But that conversation proved to me that business is business to some. And challenges such as this can only make me a better person. That is a lesson I want to capture and never want to forget.

  • Sometimes, the unpleasant or uncomfortable moments show you the side of the person that you don't get to see. So congrats on your new job and best of luck with it! Onward and forward as they say ;)
