Laptops: Can't live without one?

I used to think that people who were on their laptops were crazy and couldn't possibly imagine what in the world was so important that they needed to be glued to this thing like a second leg. Then we bought my HP something or other 21" laptop and i thought to myself "Where have you been all of my life?". I did not think this because i feel the need to have the laptop on 24 hours a day, but because now with this faster, sassier model that didn't hang everytime i asked it to do something i could now get several things done at once without having to leave my kids to their own devices. With four boys all 5 years and under, leaving them to their own devices is not something i wish to practice and keep my sanity in check. My new laptop now allows me to do so many things: go through all my recipes and recipes that my friends want to share, check e-mail, jot down design ideas i have, keep up with friends, watch tv and/or movies, play music, write and order groceries and photos all without leaving the house. I can look up directions, activities for the kids and print off worksheets for my son who is working on his speech without having to move off the couch.

Let's not get the idea that i am a couch at home mom, i do spend most of my day on my feet, but the laptop has brought me the convenience and pulled many aspects of my life together. While i can't say that i accomplish more at the end of the day, i can say that i am getting things done in several different areas of my life and not just the ones right in front of me.

Now if i could only get this laptop to do housework i would be set! How has your laptop changed your daily life?

  • I don't have a laptop, but it's okay we ( my 16 yr.) and I share a PC in the Living room- works out good- we share. Go back about 5 years and I wouldn't have known anything about the computer- so do good now. I can check anything I want, I belong to the local "freecycle" group and have gotten in contact with both old and new friends. I can see how it be easier to be able to see your children- so a laptop for you more than not is a blessing in itself. Take care, eileenb
