What I'll do for a t-shirt
Don't tell What Not to Wear: I wear t-shirts. I do. Plain ones, crew neck, v-neck, short sleeves and long, shirts with meaningful sayings, and shirts that display random or meaningless statements but cost next to nothing. I wear them to work in the garden, cook, bake, clean, and just plain hang out in the house or on the deck. I might wear them in the house, I might wear them with a mouse, on a train, in the rain, with a fox in socks in box eating....never mind.
I signed up for our wellness department's "Go Green" project in part to get the shirt. I'm already greener than most of my coworkers, so participation will be easier done than said. Whether I win a prize or not, I'll have the shirt to add to my gardening wardrobe.
On the other hand, I bought shirts to help raise funds for a coworker who is walking the Avon Walk for Cancer in Chicago. I bought (gulp) three. One for me, a pink piece with a ribbon that I'll wear with pride. One for my mother the cancer survivor, pink but less obvious than mine with ribbon. The third one is a size small for my daughter. If mom's cancer is genetic, and especially if it's recessive, my daughter is at risk. She may or may not wear it publicly - it may become a nightshirt for my college kiddo - but she'll wear it and appreciate the sentiment.
Don't worry too much, style mavens. I do have a proper work wardrobe, although it is a bit casual. Sweaters, jackets, decent dressy pants in neutral colors.
But don't ask me to give up my t-shirts quite yet.
