Easter/Birthday party?

So for Easter the plan was to have my parents go over to my mother in-laws with us. At the last minute (as usual) my brother and his wife decide to have their 6 year old son's birthday on Easter. Maybe they we're trying to kill two birds with one stone...? So now my parents cancel going to my mother in laws and we're expected to go to the birthday party. The best part is we never receive a phone call or invitation for the party, but my mom has to do they inviting by word of mouth. This bothers me because they never call or send invitations. My mother is expected to do all the inviting by work of mouth. I think the sister in-laws excuse is that she's too busy but she only work 3 days a week and I work 5. I always send invitations and give enough notice because I understand that people are busy. So for once in my life I said NO. No we're not going to go to the party that we were told last minute about and not even properly invited. (Never mind the fact that it's on Easter!?) I did however run around like a crazy woman trying to get his gift so that my parents could bring it over for him even though we weren't attending. This way we could relax on Easter and not feel rushed. I feel rushed everyday and I really am getting better on saying no so that my weekends are not rushed. I'm becoming selfish with my time. Of course, guilt rose it ugly head yesterday and I felt guilty for not going. My mother of course gave me a guilt trip (she's great for sending me one those), but it made me feel good that I did what I wanted for once. Maybe next time they will get the hint and properly invite us. I also realized from this that I have to let go of the guilt my Mom makes me feel and start doing things for myself. Basically I have to learn to say NO!
