Cheap and Easy Ways to Improve Your Home

Prior to having our son, we used to do a lot of improvements to our place on a regular basis. Since he was born, we stopped and it's not good, things start to slide. So, we have now started doing things each weekend to make us feel good in our house. You don't have to spend a lot of money to make a place look more fabulous and here are some things that you can do that make a big difference on a limited budget.

I'm sure that everyone has heard this before but PAINT makes a huge difference. After a couple of years, you will have scuffs on your walls and/or doors. Take the time to buy a $10 small jar of paint at home depot and re-paint all of your doors and scuff marks. Home Depot can actually match your paint if you have no clue what the color was, just scrape off a small amount of color and take it in for them to match it. I recently re-painted all of our doors and living room wall scuff marks in 45 minutes. If your walls are white, paint them now!! If color isn't your thing, paint them a very light tan color and I promise that you will love it.

Install new SHOWER HEADS. We had decent shower heads but decided to go fancier and it only cost us $30 (with the $10 off Bed, bath and Beyond Coupon) but even without the coupon, its still a bargain. You can spend anywhere from $20-$100 on new shower heads depending on what you like. If we planned on being there for 20 years, we probably would have sprung for the $100 one. We got one with dual heads, one with the detachable hose and a sliding rod. It's really, really nice and it only took us 20 minutes to install. We had put a new one in our sons bathroom prior to his birth and that one was similar in price.

Update your LIGHT FIXTURES. This is mainly for your bathrooms and kitchen. Our light fixtures were new when we bought our condo 5 years ago and although they still appear new, they are not really our personal taste so my husband decided we should change them out. We were so excited about our new shower head that he's now on a roll. LOL. It makes a big difference in the look of your bathroom to have something new that you are excited about.

  • It's nice was a difference a small change can bring. I just finished painting one of the bedrooms w/ DH it looks so nice. For years was into colors..but now I have started to favor white walls again...or at least a light color. We painted the room white. Now I'm thinking about a new shower head...thanks..I think it will do just the right trick to improve the bathroom. Oh..have already started to repaint the door and change the door knobs as they were over 15 years old..what a improvement. Went with silver...so much better.
