Day Three and a Ruptured Ear Drum
Posted 2nd October 2009 by , tagged Ear infection; Cilift
I had a bad night with Ethan. He niggled and cried most of the night, but wouldn't tell me what was wrong. We figured it was his ears, and he eventually fell asleep on my chest at about 6am. I called in to say I wouldn't be at work, and made an appointment for him to see our GP. 09h30 came around, and as I was sitting in the waiting room with him on my lap, I noted blood and some other oozey gunk coming out of his ear. A ha. There were no signs of anything being wrong before 10pm the night before, and it's already ruptured. He's on the third course of antibiotics in two months, and I must bring him back in two weeks to check if his ears have cleared. Then I'll have to take him to an audiologist to see if his hearing's been affected by the fluid build up, and if so, we'll have to go the grommit route.
I also got something I hadn't bargained for - a hayfever injection! I felt pretty crappy for a few hours after, but after a second sleep, I felt much better. Now it's out of my head and on my chest - I've developed a cough, and my mouth and throat is very dry. You just can't win sometimes.
As for the Cilift, I know that today is only Day Four, but I'm feeling better. I'm far better around the kids, and they've actually been quite sweet. Kiefer's coming up with all sorts of ideas and designs for alterations to our home, and even gave me a shopping list that would entail buying everything at the builder's depot, but that's okay. Apparently all I need is a credit card. I wonder who told him that? Could only have been his grandmother. Ethan's been saying that he "really, really" loves me, which has been wonderful to actually take in and appreciate, so each day is getting better.
I've read about other people and their experiences with taking Cilift, and it has been more nagative than positive. I know medication affects different people differently, but so far, Cilift has been good to me. No headache, no sore jaw or jaw clenching. Touch wood.
It's Erich's birthday on Sunday, so I've arranged for a braai (BBQ) on the Saturday afternoon. I'll be ordering in a keg of beer from the German Beerhaus, Paulaner, at the Waterfront, and I've invited quite a few people. I've got the salads (must just make the stuff that needs to be super fresh on Saturday morning) and drinks sorted out, so it's just up to the birthday boy to arrange the meat. I enjoy having people over, and will take it easy - I promise. And I'll make sure they do the dishes before they go home!
