The sounds of croup

You know that feeling, deep in your gut, when you look at your child and you know they are sick before they have any sick symptoms? I got it this morning, even though my daughter seemed to have recovered from a light cold last week. And by the time evening came it was clear that she got croup.

That cough is so scary-sounding... we got a note from her preschool that a few kids got croup so I guess we didn't escape it. Sigh... for her and for us:(

We did the steam in the shower, and she has a humidifier running, but she just woke up with a cough attack and gave me this horribly sad look of "Help me mommy!" I hate feeling so helpless, so bad for her....

And then of course as soon as we got her to sleep the juggle conversation started - who can stay home with her when. Oh, these are the times I slightly -- ok, not slightly -- envy my friends who have full-time nannies to help out... Could definitely use an extra hand now:)

  • Croup stinks! We've been that round more times than I care to remember.

I'll be thinking of you guys!

    Get well soon :)

  • That stinks! She just has a little cold right now, and I feel bad. That bad cough must be so hard for her and you.

  • Oh man! I really feel for you guys! Poor sweetheart. We've never had a sick child (yet...knock on wood), but I'm really dreading it. Hang in there.

  • Thanks, Mandy - I'll have to keep the cold in mind - I've heard this before as well, but this is our first croup...

  • OMG, we were just having that conversation...and I've been there. Poor baby, and parents to have to listen to it. Sleep for you will suck right now (sorry, but true). The upside (I love upsides), you live in New England and it's cold enough that wrapping her in a blanket and taking her out on the porch will help in the middle of the night. I hope you can comfortably take the time the three of you need to snuggle her and settle her and make her feel comfortable tomorrow. Remember, there's nothing wrong with sitting next to her on the couch with your laptop while she's watching Annie/Cinderella/Shrek/insert favorite movie here and checking in with work when and as you can. You've said it before: sometimes you just have to chalk it up as a non productive day (ok, I'm ad libbing). Sweet dreams to your baby! And to her parents.
