Help Name My Column

  • I need help. Mommy Blogs Toronto ( a kinda big deal in the Canadian Mommyblogosphere) asked me to do a column for them after BlogHer this year. I was thrilled and excited, but summer isn't the time to take on a new, intensive project for me, so I pitched a basic idea using "Parenting Without A License" as my title--they wanted a single mom voice and I'm happy to provide that because I hate, hate, hate that downtrodden, pathetic, undereducated stereotype that's out there.

The the iVillage thing happened, and I took Parenting Without A License as my personal blog name and url. And I'm really happy with it.

Only problem is, MBT still wants me (yay!) and I got nuthin. Concept remains the same: A normalized voice for single motherhood inside the mom community--but my title well is dry.

    HELP!!!!!

Seriously, if we could all (and by that I mean YOU loverly brilliant women) brainstorm some possible titles, that'd be awesome and I'd appreciate it ever so much!

  • Well, there's always the old Irina Dunn quote that you could play off of:

"A woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle."

    Hmm . . . other thoughts:

    Independent Mom

    Independent Mothering

The Kids and I (ooh, that's like The King and I)

    Everyday (Single) Mom

    Only My Rules Count

    I Make the Rules

  • I've been thinking about this since you posted it and I'm not doing so well. I'm hoping inspiration will hit and I'll be able to give you a brilliant name. Not happening yet but so you don't think you're being ignored here are some interim names to get the juices flowing:

On Kate, idea: Every (Single) Day

    or

Mom Home Alone or Home Alone Mom

    Mommy Says So

    Mom's Team

Blogma's Dogma (hmm, I may want that one if I was a blogger but I'm not!)

Hopefully I'll be back with more. Good luck!

  • Ok, I am still taking way too much cold medicine to really be creative, but how about something along the lines of:

    Happy Single Mom

Parenting Without a Husband (kind of a play on your personal blog name)

    Mom Can Do All, Really

Ok, those aren't great - but hopefully some ideas will spring up from reading them. One other idea to think about is having a short name and then adding a short tagline to explain what it is about.

  • ok, I've decided to run this as a contest. By all means, keep brainstorming over here, because there's some good stuff. But if you want to enter (I'm offering a super exclusive Photrade evite and a box of Girl Guide cookies (the mint ones) as prizes) go to either

http://thedailymom.ivillage.com/parenting/2007/10/ a_contest_name_my_new_baby.php#more That's the Daily Mom at iVillage. But mysteriously, a lot of comments on my posts don't seem to go through over there...hmmmmm.....

Or At Parenting Without A License:

    Good luck, and thank you!

Lorna: The Fish riff is great. Unfortunately, because it's such a great idea, it's been done a lot. You'd be amazed how many "Fish" titled blogs by single women there are. The Kids and I is pretty cool though.

Nataly: I hope your cold gets better soon. Colds suck.
