Anyone had to locate MATERIALS for a product? I need help!

  I am trying to locate a material for a new product we are working on. I have done google searches and come up with some large companies that provide materials... but I need samples. I need to test various types of plastic that shrinks at a low temperature. We may have to find someone to manufacture this material if it isn't already out there. Any suggestions? Has anyone been through a material search before that can help point me in the right direction?

  I do a lot of product and book reviews, and I've found that the companies' PR people are, by and large, pretty willing to send me a sample to test out before I write. If you need samples to test before you place a (potentially large) order with a company, try contacting their PR or Marketing people. Just be upfront and to-the-point about it -- you need a certain type of material, and you need to test a small sample of it, and you're hoping their product fits the bill so you don't have to look elsewhere. Chances are, they'll be happy to get a snippet to you...
