Do you Twitter?

  • During the last few weeks, it seems like everyone I know is on Twitter. I know what it is, and I've even gotten advice that it's good for business networking (really?), but I just feel like it would add more distraction to my already nutty life (I am still working on getting my email checking under control).

    Do you Twitter?

  • I do twitter (@sharkeysday). I thought it was totally stupid when I first signed up - thought it was akin to text messaging. But it's not really, more of a blog of a few words - with direct conversations.

Networking...hmmm, not sure, but you do get to know important people faster - however if they have 20,000 followers, well, you have to say something pretty important to capture their attention.

It's not great for "I've just posted blah, blah", but it's great if you "tease" something - make people want to look.

I'm having fun with it so far, but I'm really a newbie too!

  • I was going to ask the same question. It was suggested that I twit to network. I think it is great for the reasons sharkeysday says but I am still feeling a little stupid on it. I am having a hard time getting it and wondering why I am doing it. I don't know if I am that person that has someting so important to say or would put myself entirely out there in terms of my personal views.

  • haha i twitter! but yes i feel dumb too! And really only 2 of the people i follow actually have sent anything (very good ones though!) i do like receiving them but feel stupid sending them.

it is kind of exciting though, when you think "ooh! i can share this tidbit with everyone falling me!" even if it's only like 4 people haha!

i think it may be similiar to blogging in that you just do your thing and then eventually whoever likes reading it will follow you/suggest others do to the same and before you know it you have a zillion people chuckling at you and reading your blogs and commenting, etc.

  • I just signed up... not really sure what it's all about! @polkadotmommy
  • I'm out of the loop. I've read about twitter...well I've seen the word all over the place, but have no idea what it is, or if I want to do it...I have a hard enough time keeping up with my wall on facebook. From your descriptions it sounds pretty fun though.

  • I'm with mamajama - I'm still figuring out this Facebook thing! Also, I like following other people on Twitter, but I don't know that I'd have much to share myself. All my tweets would be "Working..." "Still working..." "What's that smell?" Scintillating stuff!

  • I signed up a few weeks ago. I found an old friend who I remember emailed me about Twitter a year ago. I still haven't connected my mobile phone to my account, nor have I twittered (tweeted?) about anything yet. It seems a bit strange to me still, and even though I found my friend and am following him, there is no way to actually contact him through Twitter (unless I missed something). I don't have his email address anymore because we used to correspond through my old email that I no longer use. So if anyone knows if there is a way to contact other people on Twitter, could you clue me in? Anyway, I guess I'm still riding the fence on this one....

  • Yes! I do Twitter. I have found Twitter to be very useful for social network marketing as well as meeting new people.

When I first signed up I didn't get it. I couldn't figure out what the big deal was. But now I know and I am now a dedicated Twitter user. If you don't get it, keep trying. It will make mores sense the more you use it.

Check out my page and follow me ( I will follow too ) > monawea's Twitter

  • One thing I think "helps" is I installed Twhirl - just do a google search for it. It basically puts twitter on your desktop as kind of an instant messenger. Then you can just scan the messages as they come in.

I followed a lot of the folks that other people comment on. I also followed all of the blog authors that I find on there (blogs I already read).

However, now I have a wierd problem. I'm actually following people I'm not interested in. Twitter etiquette seems to be that "unfollowing" is a statement - sort of an "I don't like you anymore". So, I'm not quite sure what to do.

    Thoughts?
