Owning Own Business = 24/7 Career?

Do you find running your own business now means you work 24/7? In other words, blurring the boundaries a bit? Sometimes I have the hardest time walking away from email, etc. especially with all the technology available today (iPhone, etc.)

OMG, absolutely! I work on average, 15 hours a day, but often more than that. I've had tough jobs before, but nothing compares!Flag as inappropriate Posted by Nataly on 6th May 2008

I agree! The good news and the bad news are the same thing - we are doing what we love and believe in, so we have little incentive to stop working on it. While my kids make of point of the phone not being in my hand, they love the fact that I have launched a company and it has a web site. I just ordered mousepads as a promo item and my son and daughter are featured rock climbing on it, this way they feel included & I get to see there adorable little selves exploring a new sensation - climbing! Yes, my phone was in my hand at the time, but I was taking a picture of them

Yes! My husband own his own company, and in addition to the day care I used to run in my home I have also tried a few Multi-level marketing things.
Being the owner of a business means you are never "off". The responibility of success or failure lies squarely in your hands.
On the other hand, the boundries are blurred in positive ways too. YOU get to decide how much involvment your kids have, when you can pause to make time for them and yourself, ect...
It's a wonderful thing.Flag as inappropriate Posted by MAC on 10th May 2008 -
I don't work my business 24/7, but I do work on projects at odd times - usually 2-3 hour shots at a time. I usually work 7am-9am at home; the late morning and early afternoon is when I schedule meetings with clients. Then I work on projects again from 2pm until about 5pm. If I have a last minute thing come through, I will work for a while after dinner.Flag as inappropriate Posted by Karen on 11th May 2008

OMG! My kids make fun of my iPhone always being with me and always going off. Good to know other moms and their 24/7 connection to their cell phone bring their kids a few good laughs too!Flag as inappropriate Posted by ARFamilyFun on 12th May 2008
