  • Hi Everyone,

Just joined, and thought you should know that Moms In Business Network (MIBN) is now part of this group. Moms In Business Network is the national association representing Entrepreneurial, Executive & CEO moms (you!).

I'm Gina Robison-Billups, founder and president of MIBN.

I was recently asked by Obama's Liason office to have a "seat at the table" with other national women leaders to discuss what's important to moms in business and provide solution options. Please feel free to send me stories/thoughts regarding issues you believe are important to business moms like yourself (and solution ideas too).

    Thanks!

  • It is important to me that Moms in business, working moms, and MoMpreneurs have the opportunity to build their businesses, adapt their careers to fit their family needs without having adverse affects on their careers. I believe that there shoudl be more incentives for companies to retain their working moms by offering job sharing and flexible work environment options. There are not enough companies that have these types of opportunities and those that do are not effectively enforcing them.

A good start might be tax incentives, public grant funding from the Department of Labor for small businesses and not-for-profit organizations. Increased funding opportunities for women who are willing to change careers to teaching or working in the school system. Education is severly underfunded, teachers are not adequately paid and many women - especially single mothers - do not see this career as a viable option because salaries are insufficient. There are also too many predators (especially on-line) taking advantage of moms who just want to make money with little to no oversight.

Personally I would love to go back to school but that is almost impossible to finance with a growing family and cutting back my hours to put my family first. Even with cutting back so I can stay at home with our children, we still have to give up a lot because our family does not qualify for public programs. My salary paid for the our children - their clothes, activities, travel, etc. - and they are missing out on a lot because of this sacrifice. I am still trying to establish my business

I'm interested in hearing from other moms in business and working moms because I am struggling.
