Member Close-Up: Momof2lovelies

Founder and CEO of www.mykidsregistry.com

Each week, we'll introduce you to a member of Work It, Mom! This week, we took a moment to chat with momof2lovelies.

1.) What do you do?

I am the Founder/CEO of www.mykidsregistry.com -- a wishlist community for kids, focusing on birthdays and holidays. A friendly place for parents to tell family and friends what their kids are wishing for. I am also a full-time mom to two beautiful children.

2.) How did you end up in your current career?

I was part of a re-organization in my previous position in the fashion industry. The division practically shut down. I was in fashion for 17 years. After that experience, I needed a break from the whole industry.

A year and half later, I was putting together my son’s birthday party. I love putting together his parties. I make all of the favors from scratch would search for the perfect invitations and invite everyone.

As his birthday was approaching I kept getting calls: “What should we buy Bennett for his birthday?” I would say, “Please just come -- that’s enough.” They would say. “Oh, come on, we want to buy him something.” I would say, “well he likes Superman and superheroes.” It always made me feel uncomfortable. By the fifth or sixth phone calT I said to myself, “there’s got to be a better way to tell people.” As I answered one more phone call, I was also looking over my cousin's wedding registry and the light bulb went. “POW.” I said, "There should be something like this, but for kids."

Now www.mykidsregistry.com exists.

3.) What's your dream job?

I am not sure I have just one. I like experimenting. If I have to choose just one, I would love Oprah's job, but so much of her job is her just being her, so do I want to be Oprah?

I can’t see much further than being a mom right now. It is the hardest job I have ever had. I miss a “real paying” job but I am not so sure I am willing to give this up quite yet. I have always dreamt of being a mom, so I guess I am living a little dream now.

(Momma just wishes she was getting paid)

4.) Tell us a few things on your Life To-Do List.

Become a successful entrepreneur with mykidsegistry. Get to Hawaii. Travel Europe with my kids. Create more crafts. Volunteer to help kids who are less fortunate.

5.) Would you want your kids to follow in your career footsteps?

I will answer directing it towards fashion: The answer is NO, NO, NO!!! It is a tough, cut-throat industry.

In regards to something like becoming an entrepreneur: I hope I can give them that kind of guidance while they are very young. While you are young, you are more likely to take risks. At the end of the day, they will get my support with whatever they choose as long as it is a respectable choice. I will give them guidance.
