Member Close-Up: Yes, Mommy Has to Work Today

Works at home providing health insurance alternatives

Each week, we'll introduce you to a member here at Work It, Mom! We recently took a little time to get to know Yes, Mommy has to work today, who lives in Portland, Oregon, and is mom to five children.

1.) What do you do?

I just left my job in Government Security to start my work at home business. I now work as an independent business owner providing our nation's uninsured with an affordable alternative to health insurance. I also help other people learn to do what I do and work from home.

2.) How did you end up in your current career?

LUCK! I have been trying to transition to working at home for a while. I stumbled upon this opportunity accidently and am THRILLED with what I am doing.

3.) What is your dream job?

I think this is it! For me, the only job I ever wanted was to be a Mom. Since I HAVE to work, this opportunity has allowed me to effectively balance my work with my family life and that is my top priority. Now I don't have to miss out on class parties or sporting events. I can help with homework and run my household as I want. And my career is fulfilling... I am helping others. It just doesn't get better than that!

4.) Tell us a few things on your Life To-Do List.

There are so many things that it hard to pick just a few! This year I hope to travel Asia with my husband (he has been MANY times for work). I also want to finally complete the writing of my book. I want to teach my children how to effectively manage money, the importance of balance sheets and investing. I want to know I have given them the tools to be financially successful so that their generation is stronger than mine. I want to be there for every school party, field trip and sporting event for the REST of my life. I want to live as if I am writing my obituary, creating the legacy I want to leave behind every single day.

5.) What's for you the toughest challenge when it comes to juggling work and family?

For me its dedicated time for work! Since I have started working from my home office, I find that there are a ton of household destractions that keep me from logging enough work time. I am trying to learn to control my environment and effectively manage my work time vs. my family time. It appears I will have to get better at ignoring the mountains of laundry and create a solid work schedule that I don't deviate from!
