Each week we introduce you to another working mother here at Work It, Mom! This week, we chat with Miss Britt, a mom of two in Orlando, Florida, who wonders: "Can blogging be considered a dream job?"
1.) What do you do?
That's always an interesting question to me, because I'm always doing several things at once. Work wise? I work full-time for a company in the recruiting/employment industry. (Wow, that's vague.) My official title is some kind of "VP/Marketing/Exec/Guru," but the reality is that I do sales. Basically.
I'm also working on figuring out other ways to create an income from blogging and writing. You know, in my spare time.
2.) How did you end up in your current career?
I ended up in sales and marketing because I didn't finish college but I could always, always sell stuff. It didn't matter what it was, I could sell it.
My current job? My boss is a fellow blogger. He sent me marketing material of his to review once and I ripped it to shreds. The rest, as they say, is history.
3.) What's your dream job?
If time and money and mouths to feed were not an issue, my dream job is (and always has been) to be an attorney for the ACLU. I'm psychotically passionate about civil liberties and protection of rights.
Realistically, my dream job would be to work in a marketing consultant role.
4.) Tell us a few things on your Life To-Do List.
I want to die being able to say someone paid me to write. I want to see the temples of Egypt and stand at the top of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. I want to find my family's castle in Ireland. I also want to learn how to get chocolate pudding out of T-shirts.
5.) What's for you the toughest challenge when it comes to juggling work and family?
The hardest thing for me is that I love working. I always have. I'm very career minded and was completely unprepared for how important my children would be to me. It's easy for me to escape into my work. Of course, I get the most personal satisfaction from the little moments with my kids. It just seems like those special moments get pushed to the back burner more easily than deadlines and work commitments.
