Who has been most helpful to you as you’ve been running your own business?
Definitely my husband. He’s my un-official Chairman of the Board. He worked hard on a great education, has skills that go from finance to strategy to management, and of course knows my strengths and “developmental opportunities” - so calls it like it is. He also thinks my business is fantastic so he’s a huge supporter, not only intellectually but also emotionally.
One piece of advice for other entrepreneur moms: For family: Support, backup support, backup backup support is key (great advice I got from another working mom). If you can manage it financially, outsource as much as you can in the home that you don’t enjoy. Doing chores doesn’t bring me closer to my kids, my husband, or make my business grow, so paying for help in those areas seems like an ROI that I can live with both because I don’t want to do it, and because I genuinely think it’s better for my business to keep my energy up.
For work: Do what you are best at and gives you energy. We all want more time in our day, so really the way to achieve that is by focusing on work that gives you energy so your days are more productive and enjoyable!
