The best aspect is the ability to get out and feel like a real contributor to society and family.

What compromises have you had to make personally and professionally since becoming a mom?

Personally - I don’t feel like I take care of myself. I would rather be with my kids than shop. My relationship with my husband suffers as well.

Professionally – I’ve had to put myself in a holding pattern with respect to promotions. A promotion means more travel and I can’t travel right now.

Did you find that your colleagues/clients treated you differently after you had kids?

Yes. I feel that my colleagues think that I always come up with excuses and am not pulling my weight like I did before having children. (I am not too sure if this is reality or my own paranoia). I feel inferior to my male colleagues. I’ve never felt that before.

Who/what has been most helpful to you as you’ve navigated through your career as a mom?

Hudson River Park Mothers' Group has been great. I also turn to other moms in similar situations.

Please share with us the top three things/strategies that help you successfully get through your days at work and at home.

- Be extremely organized

- Remind yourself that you are not going to get it all done

- Set 1 or 2 tasks for the day and make sure you get those done

What does work/life balance mean to you?

I’m always trying to be at peace that I’m doing what I can. If I accomplish the few tasks I set for the day, I feel good about it. Meeting my own goals on a daily basis gives me a sense of balance.

Professional moms know that the way to keep our sanity is by not being perfect at everything. What are some things you are not perfect about?

Work/life balance. I’m not good at making time to decompress and just to enjoy my children.

We’ve all had them – describe your most trying/embarrassing/don’t-want-to-remember-this moment as a professional mom so far:

I’ve brought my daughter to the pediatrician had no diaper or change of clothes for her. I felt so horrible. Here I am, a new mom with my child and I don’t have basic stuff with me!

How do you de-stress and relax?

I surf the internet and look at mother-related sites, especially the ones that help me be a better mother. I also go to the gym.
