THE CROCKPOT! I have 3. One has different sized bowls. I have learned to turn almost any recipe into a crockpot recipe.
The other night I was running late and needed a quick way to feed my family before dinner. I had everything for tacos but no meat thawed out, so i swung into the store and got a $5.00 deli chicken. Boned and tossed with my taco mixn's and done! It was also cheaper to buy a pre cooked whole bird than frozed chicken breast! Had to share :)
The summer is supposed to be a time for kids to enjoy not having to be in school and to just enjoy being kids. However, with the heat that some of us are having, or the rain, or whatever the case may be, they don't always get to go outside and play. Here's something fun for them to do inside ...
We all know that it seems like the washing machine often eats our socks. My husband and I have plenty of socks that have lost their partners. Take some of your socks that you can't find the match for, and take some of your children's socks that you can't find a match for, and let them turn them into sock puppets! Purchase some washable markers and let your kids draw faces on the socks, give them clothing, etc. and put on a puppet show! After they're tired of the same ol' puppets, just wash the socks! Since the kids used washable markers, the marker will be washed out and they can draw some new puppet characters and make up new stories. This is a great way to keep the imagination at work.
The toy room! I was having such a meltdown every time I would sit down to read or watch TV and the toys were everywhere. Finally, we made the front room (kind of out of sight to all else) just the playroom and reinforced that it was where all the toys must stay. Now out in the sitting room, I can read and watch TV and never have to face that mess with such dread again.
This is a funny one. I never have time alone so I signed my husband up for art classes, which he has always wanted. So, he goes out for 3 hours every Wednesday night and I have a few hours to myself after my son goes to sleep and my husband just thinks that I got him this gift because I love him! It works on all ends!
This is a wasteline saver. After dinner, when I am craving dessert, I cut up some fresh strawberries and put them in a bowl with a scoop of Cool Whip Lite (fat free would work too, or even regular Cool Whip isn't that bad). Anyway, it's totally delicious - it's like strawberry shortcake without the cake or guilt!
This may sound a little silly but my husband bought me a ROOMBA automatic carpet cleaner and I first I thought, "this is probably a piece of junk with shiny buttons...there's no way it can clean a carpet!" Well, much to my surprise ROOMBA actually does work. I love that I can turn it on, close the door (block off entries that I don't want it to go in or under) and let it do its thing. This saves me time and I think it's worth the purchase. Thiema
This summer snack satisfies the sweet tooth of any little one who is asking for a sugar hit -- but doesn't provoke the Candy Crazies. Puree a few skinned, fresh peaches with some lemon juice and a hint of sugar and pour thick juice into cookie cutter moulds on a flat pan. Place in freezer for two hours and voila - delicious peach popsicles.
