About 77 percent of new moms start off nursing their newborns, which is the highest rate seen in the US for more than a decade, reports a government study. The down side: sustained breast-feeding for the first six months is still way lower than target figures. While this article mentions income and race as factors, it does not get into workplace factors discouraging continued nursing, such as lack of maternity leave time, lack of flexibility, and lack of places to nurse and/or pump while at work.
