Certain jobs and certain positions are easier to consider for hiring pregnant women than others. It's hard to justify hiring a pregnant women for a high powered position that is expected to produce fast, high profile results in a year, when for 3-4 months of that year will be maternity leave. It is not only hard on the company, but I also think it is unfair for the women to do in 1/2 to 3/4 o f the time what others have 12 months to do.

I am a retail manager and I couldn't tell you how many pregnant women I have hired. Yes it's inconvienient to have someone go on leave so soon but they wouldn't be looking for a job if they didn't need to work. In my line of work, planning and anticipating change is critical and as long as I do that well I can adapt to an employee going out on leave. Nothing breeds loyalty more than a good employee knowing they have somewhere to come back to when they're ready.
