Why Moms Can't Sleep

If you don't get enough sleep, you're most definitely not alone. According this article from Redbook, more and more moms are saying they don't get enough sleep and it's affecting their health, careers, and general stress level.

The article points to a recent study by the National Sleep Foundation that found that two thirds of women -- many of them moms -- have difficulty falling or staying asleep. Some moms profiled in the article say this is because they don't have enough time during the day to finish everything on their list, while other stay up late at night because it's the only time they have for themselves.

Many Work It, Mom! members have mentioned that they don't get enough sleep, while others say they can't function without it and make getting enough sleep a priority.

Do you have trouble sleeping or finding enough time for sleep? Do you feel it affects your stress level, career, family? Or are you one of the moms who stays up late at night because it's your only "me" time?

I most definitely don´t get enough sleep. Both my boys still wake up several times during the night and they are up very early in the morning. Since I work at home, I usually end up trying to finish up stuff I didn´t get done at night. Then I feel that I need some non-kid/non-work time and stay up even later.

This means I go to bed around midnight or 1 am, get up three or four times and then am up for good around 5. I sometimes get a nap during the day, but it´s pretty rare!
I don't get enough sleep. Baby wakes early and sometimes at odd hours. I am up at 6a and don't go to bed until at least 1130p. Too much to do after the kiddies are in bed and I have to catch a TV show occasionally, too, for me!

I think I had my first bout of what sleep deprivation feels like yesterday. I had the strangest headache that came and went most of the day. By the afternoon, I found myself anxious and panicky - feeling like I was having trouble breathing, swallowing, focusing. I finally broke down and started to cry! (I have never experienced a panic or anxiety attack - is that what this was??)

I am not totally certain that it's all sleep deprivation - but it certainly affects my ability to focus and generally hold it all together like us moms do!

My body is sending me a message because me strong headedness will not let me see it. On top of being a FT mom and working FT outside the home, my baby has not been sleeping well for several weeks.

It's taken it's toll! Thank goodness for my wonderful husband and both my sons - I plan to do what I can to de-stress and rest for the next few days. I may even call in sick to work!
