My engagement was the most beautiful, romantic moment of my life. And pretty shocking since I'd sworn on all that was good and sacred I'd never make another trip down the aisle because my first marriage was such a disaster. Anyway, it was amazing. David planned everything perfectly, down to the exact time the sun would be coming through the trees that arched over the road where he proposed and he had his friend hidden taken pictures of the whole event.
We set a date immediately only to find out Dave's step-dad had scheduled his Continuing Medical Education classes that same weekend, before we got engaged. Dave's mom said we didn't have to change the date, "if it wasn't that important for them to be there". I was aggravated, but what do I say to that? It ended up being okay because my Maid of Honor found out after 14 years of trying she's pregnant and is due in May. All it took was her getting divorced. Go figure.
As you can imagine, after all of that I was a little gun shy about setting another date. We wanted to have a real wedding with all our friends and family there to help us celebrate, but with all that mess, I was just thinking of running off to Vegas and having an Elvis impersonator do this thing. I do love me some Elvis. However, we wouldn't be able to involve the kids if we did it that way and my parents weren't there the first time I got married because I went to the JP and my mom won't fly, so they'd miss it this time, too. That would probably ensure my being ctotally cut out of my dad's will. A real wedding was our only option.
Two weekends ago Dave and I had the opportunity to go to a Kinky Friedman fundraiser in the small town of Winnsboro, TX. We had an amazing, romantic weekend. There was no cell phone reception, no kids, no television, no nothing to distract us from each other. We had the best, most relaxing time and got to see why we fell in love with each other to begin with. It was great and reinforced that we do want to spend the rest of our lives together and wanted it to start sooner rather than later.
So, October 18th, 2008, I will make my encore trip down the aisle. We are going to begin planning our "green" wedding this weekend and hopefully no one will have training, labor or anything else planned for that weekend cause I'm not changing it again!!
