Reinventing the Wheel and Comparison

So I finally have a chance to volunteer at my daughter's preschool.  The task - create an invitation to the Nursery, Pre-k and Kindergarten Pasta Dinner.  My husband commented that this would be a good task for me because I am fairly creative when it comes to invitations.  The coordinator of the dinner gave me a copy of the last few years invitations - and for some reason I have hit a block.  I actually printed out my second attempt but it fails in comparison to last years - which begs the question - why are we reinventing the wheel?  Can't I just use last year's and update the information?  I know this is trivial but . . .
