The One Skill I Want to teach my Kids

As all parents, I want my kids to be able to stand on their own two feet, to be honest and trustworthy, to take care of their bodies, and to care for their children when the time comes.  I want them to find their passion in life, and do their very best at whatever they choose in life.  I want for them to be mindful of the situations and feelings of others, showing respect for every living thing.  I want for them to view life as an endless opportunity, - to see the beauty in all things, and to encourage one another. Love one another, - forgive one another.  The list goes on and on, but as I look at my long list of everything I want for my children, it all comes down to teaching them the basics, of just "Doing the Right Thing".

Doing the right thing includes all of these things.  It is right to take care of our bodies, and to care for others.  It is right to do our very best, and it is right to have a positive outlook on life, and to see opportunity in all things.  Being respectful and encouraging is right, and learning to stand on our own two feet is the right thing to do.

I used to wake up in a panic, that something would happen to me, and that maybe I hadn't had the opportunity to teach my children everything they need to know before my time on this earth is up.  I now realize, that the only thing I really need to teach them, is about the love of God, and to Do the right thing.

That is my prayer, that God grant me the guidance and wisdom, to teach my children to Do the right thing, - that I may be a living example of what that means.
