Came from my mother, when I was fifteen. It went like this:
When you have a decision to make, be sure it's your own. Don't be pushed into something by someone else. When you do make your decision, and it turns out no to have been the best decision, don't waste time regretting it. Learn from it.
She was talking about sex, as it happens, but it's the best piece of advice for just about every life situation I can think of. Thanks, mum!
