Well, spring is finally here! I couldn't be happier. Though I will be much happier when the ground is dry. I am not a huge winter fan at all I do love to snowmobile, snowangels are fun, snownman are all over my yard and I love snowcones (winter & summer) Spring and Fall are my favorites. I love being in the outdoors, and there is so much more to do outside with my kids. Here's a few ideas to get active with your kids!
Gardening~
We start in Febuary with planting indoors. Even the littlest kids can help plant & water. 2 years old and they can help to pull some weeds and pick veggies and flowers. You can make this into a great learning experience. You can incorporate teaching them about plants, the life cycle, taking care of things, working together as a team and as a family. My kids always love making plant markers out of popsicle sticks.
Nature Hikes~
Take the kids to a park or the woods and point out different flowers, trees, animals, bug and more. Have them collect some leaves and make leaf rubbings, and laminate bookmarks with them. We like to take pictures of birds and then go home and find them online. Or just stroll and relax while walking, talk to your kids. About their day, their school, whatever they want. Let them know that your attention is not focused on the tv, work, etc. 100% for them. They will love it, and so will you.
Biking & Rollerblading~
Great exercise and adventure. Turn off the tv and get outside. (That is a general theme throughout all my ideas). We are fortunate to have trails by our home that we can take the kids on. We like to make a day of it and take along a picnic!
Camping~
This is my all time favorite outdoor activity, what a wonderful family activity. Cooking over campfires, s'mores, fishing in lakes, s'mores, sleeping under the stars, s'mores, and should I even mention making s'mores? LOL! I can smell them now!
The Zoo~
We love, love the Zoo! We are lucky to have quite a few within a few hours from us. Check out the Zoo's website to see what fun activities or family day's that they may have scheduled.
Festivals~
We love searching online for festivals around our area, there are some really fun ones, last year we went to the Vadallia Onion Festival. We had some fantastic food!
There are so many things to do with your family in the spring this is obviously just a small snippet of them. My main objective for spring is to get lots of fresh air, shake the winter blahs, and stay away from the tv!
Happy Spring Everyone!
