Ever since joining WIM I've been inching slowly towards the launch of my business.
Boy, does it ever take a long time!
But yesterday I took an important step. I began work with Johannes Gaston Design to develop the prototype and manufacturing specifications for my product.
I
met with Johannes back in November, and wrote about my meeting with him
in my post of November 9, "A Small Measure of Success." So why did it
take 5 months to begin working with him?
First, I had to solicit other bids. I met with 2 other firms, and I like JGDesign's approach and proposal the best.
Second,
I had to be really sure about my ability to finance this endeavor.
After visiting 3 bankers I felt confident that when the time comes I
can finance the business.
Third, I had to be sure before I
spend the money on this next step that there is a market for my product
idea. After my interviews with the buyers for 3 different gift stores
in town, I feel I have a good, marketable idea provided I
execute it correctly. Because of their generous and detailed feedback,
I've changed the focus for my product design, and I have the utmost
confidence that I've found a designer/engineer who can really make this
a special item that will sell.
The partnership I've begun with
Johannes Gaston and his team is NOT a leap of faith. It is a measured,
logical next step that results from the many baby steps of research
that led up to it.
But don't let my rational tone fool you; inside I'm squealing with giddy joy because AT LAST I'm really going to turn my dream into reality!
No buyers remorse on this: I'm really, really happy.
