The slightly embarrassing story that inspired me to start my business

I was inspired to start my business, CareerBags.com, by an incident in a business meeting years ago.

Many moons ago, I was fed up with the standard boring black briefcase and decided to take matters into my own hands. I had a women's business case made just for me. It was pink. It was also faux-alligator skin (don't judge me now - I'm from Texas and it was the '80's). I took my pink bag to an important client meeting and when I opened it to retrieve my files, a tampon flew out and skittered across the boardroom table. My client politely handed my tampon back; I cracked a joke and the meeting went on, but that moment stayed with me, as only a flying tampon moment will.

On the plane ride home, I was sitting next to a couple of other business women and we got to talking about bags. They laughed at my meeting story and commiserated with me over the lack of stylish AND functional business cases for women. It seems that all three of us were looking for bags that would make us look both professional and fashionable, bags that would help us stay organized and keep our personal items to ourselves - bags that weren't boring. No more boring bags!

After that trip, I came home and designed the first line of business cases for women, the Veronica Hart collection (which I named after my daughter). After a successful run, I sold that business and moved on to other things, but I always had a keen interest in business bags for women. When I started CareerBags.com, I was thrilled to discover so many designers making fabulous and functional business cases and laptop bags for women. And plenty of them come in pink! Just my style...

What a great story! (And btw, I have a very brightly colored -- kind of cucumber green -- computer bag, which is definitely girly, and I know the guys are jealous:)
