Guilty Pleasures...an Ode to Reality TV
My favorite guilty pleasure is...reality TV! For someone I consider relatively intelligent, I LOVE reality TV. So escapist. The dumber, the better. Example: Beauty and the Geek. I love it, know all of their names, even have a geek-crush on Tommy. His cheeky subtitle is "sweater vest enthusiast". That's the best part of reality tv...the total commitment of these contestants, and the way the producers take the utter piss out of them. I love it! I love the editing of their dumb moments set to some silly song. I just watched the finale of America's Next Top Model, and yes, I have seen 8 out of 10 cycles...They are too frequent, cheesy, and I could totally be better spending my time doing more productive things. I think my love of it is linked to my (unfortunate) love of gossip! My hubby watches them with me and gets into them, too...although he'd never admit it! Once he even boycotted ANTM because his favorite girl was voted off. Also love Top chef, project runway, hell's kitchen (SO ridiculous), and dancing with the stars! The writer's strike just furthered my addiction...I resorted to new lows without the solace of Ugly Betty and Brothers & Sisters and Grey's.

Mole,
Fear
Factor...
I
just
love
unscripted
television!
You
just
never
know
what's
going
to
happen
when
people
are
left
to
their
own
devices.

My
trio
of
reality
shows:
1) DwtS (season finale is next week - wahh!) b/c I love dancing. 2) Top Chef - the individuals are entertaining, the editing and filming are excellent...and oh yeah...the FOOD. 3) Project Runway - I also find the personalities entertaining. (Dare I say it? "Fierce!" LOL) One of my favorite recent moments was on Top Chef, when the chefs realized all the electrical equipment was removed from the kitchen as part of that particular challenge. Andrew and Spike were in the area, and just stood there in silence, slowly taking in the fact that they could not rely on the equipment. Then they each walked away briskly in different directions, saying "Ohhhhhhhh (EXPLETIVE)!" That was so hilarious, it made me wonder if it was staged. - Paula. |
