Devil's Advocate

Why am I having such a hard time with this?

I've been feeling twinges of sadness; my little boy (not so little anymore) has three more days of elementary school, then it's off to middle school in the fall.  It doesn't seem that long ago that we sent him off to kindergarten.  I absolutely love the person he's become, I guess the sadness comes from closing one chapter of the book (and acknowledging that I'm getting older too).  It really hit last week when we went to open house.  After we toured his classroom, I realized after following him to a couple of other classrooms that he was taking a walk down memory lane by visiting all of his former teachers.  It was really great to talk to them all.  (Sigh.)

Does anyone else feel this way?

Thanks, you guys! I needed that.

My oldest started Junior High last Fall. It felt big and scary. I could hardly believe she was that old. I didn't mourn much for elementary school because I still have three kids there. I'll probably go through that when my youngest gets to junior high. I suspect you're having a hard time because you have the double whammy of dealing with junior high for the first time and with leaving elementary behind forever.
Thank you. You've just given me permission to feel that way when it's my son's turn. In the meantime, hugs! - Paula.
I know I did. My son's first year of junior high was this last year. I walked into that junior high for orientation and I said outloud, "This school is way too big and way too scary and I'm not ready for it!" My son told me if I kept that up, I would embarrass him. He was right, but it was really an instant reaction. My kids were just born yesterday, I would swear. Time flies. Here is a lesson I learned right after that. When I look back to remember, it's okay, but if I linger too long in the past, I miss the stuff that's happening in the present. You'll get through this. It's hard on me everytime that have a birthday or switch grades. I am pretty sure most mommies can relate. Talk to you later!
