Are callbacks too much to ask?

I know this is a collosal waste of time to get worked up over something like this, but I can't help it.  I seem to have the WORST luck with people returning phone calls or responding to my emails.  I know it's not everyone, but enough so it's a real pain. For example, I've been trying to schedule a mtg with a potential tutor for my son this summer. We had agreed in May to meet face-to-face in June so that we could get to know her and vice versa.  I emailed her Mon 6/9. She emailed me back the next day saying my proposed date wouldn't work and gave some other suggestions. I emailed her back that day and said OK, it sounds like date X might be the only time we can meet before the end of month (before my family goes on vaca).  I didn't hear back from her until Mon 6/16. She emailed suggesting another day. So I called her that day (had to leave VM), then called her the next day (VM again).  She finally called me back yesterday at my home # at 5 pm, even though I had told her I leave work at that time. (Don't you love people who call when you ask them not to? I believe that some do it b/c they would rather get your ans machine.)  Her msg was along the lines of sorry, I've been busy working on this, doing that, etc.  So I emailed her later to say good for you, it sounds like you're a busy person, but I asked her point blank -- but in a nice way, I thought -- if she was sure she was able to fit my son into her busy schedule this summer. And if so, what was the best way to communicate with her. Especially since it involves my son. Well, we'll see what happens. My boss has also been treating me like persona non grata, and frankly between those two and others (e.g. got a client who hasn't been returning my calls/emails), I'm totally fed up.  - Paula.

Oh yes, follow up with some people is like mission impossible. Sometimes you just have to take things in stride, and sometimes you have to be the pest. I say if it's a personal transaction with your son and his tutor, then she should have been more professional.

Try to set up a time over the phone when you can speak, and if she doesn't reply, get another reference or person to use.

If this other person is more responsible, I would say to use them.

Bosses, well, that's another story all together. Sometimes you have to bug them to death before you get any answer, and with clients, I've found that follow up every week is sometimes necessary.

Hope that helps somewhat.

Sometimes I wonder if it's just me when I go through a few days of people, like my friends, not getting back to me. It's like, okay, do you all not like me anymore?

Sounds like the tutor may be a bit of a flake or way too busy.
