Surfing in the Snow

Growing up in California you never truly know what “winter” really means. With seasons virtually non-existent and temperatures consistently huddling around 60, I never really understood snow days and white Christmases until I moved to the East Coast.

I have to admit that for the better part of two years I looked forward to those cold winter nights cuddling up with a glass of hot chocolate while the snow fell down outside. But after years of feeling confined to my house while the snow piled up, I decided it was time to take charge and make the best of a blizzard situation.

I looked around my house until I came across the materials I needed to create my adventure. I told my daughter to put on her hat and gloves and meet me outside. We have a small hill to the right of our house, which I turned into a “mini-ocean” by moving around the snow left on the ground. I then grabbed a sled and a rope and met my daughter outside.

The main purpose of whatever I was trying to put together was simply to get my daughter to smile. Winter can be exciting when the seasons begin to change, but some people eventually feel trapped, cold and vying for one day where they do not have to walk outside wearing hundreds of layers.

That sounds like so much fun! We live in a climate with all four seasons, and I have to admit that winter is my least favorite because of the confinement factor.
